Slayer is much like combat training. The aim of this skill is to complete tasks set by your slayer master. There are slayer masters dotted all around RuneScape and they will each give you a different task to complete. The tasks will consist of killed a set amount of monsters. For example your slayer master could ask you to kill 20 cows. This skill so much like training combat because the aim is to kill monsters, but the experience gained system is different in this skill. In combat training you will gain experience from each hit you do to a monster, where as in slayer you will only gain experience once you have killed to monster.
When you start the slayer skill you will be given an enchanted gem, you can use this find out how many monster you still have to kill, it will also tell you what your current slayer task just incase you forget.
The slayer task involves killing certain monsters around RuneScape, but you might also have noticed that there have been some new monsters added specifically for the slayer skill. Some of these new monster require some specific equipment to enable you to kill them. If you do not use this equipment you will receive a lot of damage, and may not be able to fight back.

There are 5 different slayer masters dotted around RuneScape, each master requires that you have a certain combat and/or slayer level.

| Chaeldar | Zanaris | 70 combat | Harder | |
| Duradel | Shilo Village | 100 combat | Hard |
Each of these slayer masters will have a variety of different monster for you to kill, but obviously the harder slayer masters will give you harder monster to fight.
Turael - can give you the following monster to fight.

Mazchna - can give you the following monster to fight.
|
Vannaka - can give you the following monster to fight.
|
Chaeldar - can give you the following monster to fight.
|
Duradel - can give you the following monster to fight.
|
You will only gain Slayer Experience once you have killed your assigned monster, unlike in combat training where you will gained experience for every hit you do.

Note: If you feel you can not defeat the higher level enemies, try using some of these alternatives:
Wolves - Ice Mountain Low Level Wolves
Kalphites - Kalphite Workers
Blue Dragons - Baby Blue Dragons
Red Dragons - Baby Red Dragons
Trolls - Lower Level Trolls
Birds - Chickens
Note: If you still find that your task if to hard for you then return to the slayer master in Burthope and he will give you a new easy task, then you can return back to your other slayer master for a task that would suit your combat level.
